Archiving Policy

Archiving Policy

Al’Adalah: Journal of Islamic Studies supports the dissemination and accessibility of scholarly research through institutional repositories, subject repositories, and other appropriate scholarly platforms. Authors retain copyright in their published works and are permitted to deposit and share their manuscripts in accordance with the journal's Open Access and Copyright and Licensing policies.

1. Permitted Manuscript Versions

Authors may deposit and share the following versions of their manuscripts:

a. Preprint (Submitted Version)

The version of a manuscript prepared before formal peer review may be deposited in an institutional repository, recognized preprint server, or other appropriate scholarly platform. Authors must disclose relevant preprint dissemination when submitting the manuscript to Al’Adalah: Journal of Islamic Studies. A preprint does not automatically constitute prior journal publication, but the editorial team will consider its publication status, originality, and potential implications for double-anonymous peer review.

b. Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM)

The version accepted for publication after peer review and revisions, but before final copyediting, typesetting, and journal formatting, may be deposited immediately after formal acceptance. Authors should identify this document as an accepted manuscript and provide a link to the published article and its DOI once available.

c. Published Version (Version of Record)

Authors may deposit and share the final published article, including the journal's official PDF, immediately upon publication. The published version must retain its copyright and licensing information and should include the complete bibliographic citation and DOI.

2. Embargo Policy

Al’Adalah: Journal of Islamic Studies does not impose an additional embargo period on author self-archiving. Authors may share each permitted manuscript version once it reaches the corresponding stage of the publication process, subject to applicable ethical, legal, and licensing requirements.

3. Permitted Repositories and Platforms

Authors may deposit their work in institutional, disciplinary, national, or multidisciplinary repositories, as well as on personal academic websites and appropriate scholarly sharing platforms. The journal does not require authors to use a specific repository. Authors are encouraged to select platforms that provide reliable access, appropriate metadata, and stable identifiers.

4. Citation and Attribution Requirements

When sharing a published article, authors should:

a. Acknowledge Al’Adalah: Journal of Islamic Studies as the original publication venue.

b. Provide the complete citation and DOI where available.

c. Retain copyright and licensing notices.

d. Clearly identify the version being shared.

Articles published under the journal's current licensing policy are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). Sharing and reuse must comply with the applicable license and any separate rights governing third-party materials.

5. Research Ethics and Confidentiality

Authors must ensure that deposited materials comply with applicable research ethics, privacy, confidentiality, copyright, and data protection requirements. Confidential research data, identifiable participant information, restricted archival materials, and other protected content must not be disclosed without appropriate authorization.

6. Relationship to Journal Preservation

Author self-archiving complements the journal's publication and digital preservation practices. Depositing an article in an institutional or other repository does not replace the journal's responsibility to maintain accurate publication records and appropriate long-term preservation arrangements. This policy should be read alongside the journal's Open Access Policy, Copyright and Licensing Policy, Publication Ethics, and Author Guidelines.
